Bus Transfers To and From San Francisco Airport

Six lines, operated by the San Mateo County's transit agency under the name SamTrans, link San Francisco Airport with Downtown San Francisco, other Bay locations and Palo Alto in the south.

SFO, 140, 292, 397, 398 and 399 SamTrans routes are accessible on the same level as Arrivals/Baggage Claim at the domestic terminals and from courtyards A and G at the International Terminal. At Terminal 2, SamTrans buses stop at the center island adjacent to Courtyard 2, at Terminal 3 they stop 'curbside' next to Courtyard 4 and at the International Terminal they stop on Level 1 at Courtyard A and 'curbside' next to Courtyard G.

The SFO line is a direct service starting from the Millbrae Transit Center, where BART and Caltrains also operate. Line 140 runs between the Rental Car Center, which is also accessible via Blue AirTrain, to San Bruno, South San Francisco and Pacificia. Along the route it stops at San Bruno Caltrain station, San Bruno BART and Skyline College, from where connections for San Mateo County destinations are available.

Bus line 292 runs daily between San Francisco International Airport and Hillsdale Mall via Bayshore Boulevard and Downtown San Mateo.

As part of the Bay Area's 'All Nighter Service', line 397 runs during the night, using the same route north as line 292, but offering an additional stop at Civic Center BART/MUNI Metro Station. Services continue going south via Millbrae BART and Caltrain Station. Running between San Francisco and Redwood City Caltrain Station, line 398 also serves the airport.

Route 399 runs at night to the airport as part of the 'All Nighter Service' mentioned above. The line's route is roughly the same as lines 120, 140 and ECR running north of the airport, offering an additional limited stop at Daly City BART Station. The route also serves San Bruno and South San Francisco, before ending its journey at Mission Street and Wellington Avenue in Daly City. From there there are connections via MUNI's 'All Nighter' services, provided by 14 Mission Route.

SamTrans public buses operate on a 24-hour basis. Routes SFO, ECR, 292, 397 and 398 stop directly at the terminals, with ECR, 292 and 397 also stopping at the Rental Car Center, where bus line 140 also offers a service. Routes ECR, 292 and 397 stop also on North McDonnell Road at the Airport Business Center.

Connecting to Ferries

San Francisco Airport's public buses also offer connections to SF Bay Ferry services which run between South San Francisco and Alameda/Oakland during commuter hours, from Mondays to Fridays. The Ferry Connector Bus stops at the International Terminal's Courtyard G on Level 1. The walking route is sign-posted from Arrivals.
